A passport is a very significant document. Not only does it permit you to travel between countries but it is your most important form of identification; for this reason, it should always be kept in a very secure place and you should take great care with your passport when traveling abroad.
As a British passport is such a valuable document, several changes have recently been made to enhance security such as the addition of the chip, secondary image and watermark.

Passports for Children
Children can no longer be added to the passport of their mother or father; they now need their own passport to travel out of the country. This is part of a move to try and protect against child abduction. Unlike an adult passport, a child passport is only valid for five years so it is important to check several weeks before the time that you are due to travel that it is still valid.
The requirements for a child passport are different to those of an adult passport so please call the Passport Office London on 0843 850 2020 for further information.
